We regularly get people saying to us “I love the name Beetil”. We love the name too – it really allows us to personify the tool and associate a personality to it. And it’s short and memorable. The .com was also still available too. Fantastic!
I can’t really recall though exactly how our service management tool ended up being called Beetil – I suspect it probably started off as a play on ITIL. The thing about ITIL is that it’s not actually all about IT – it’s actually about supporting the business, and business starts with “B”. That gives us BTIL or Beetil to make things a bit more user friendly. Not only that, some things logged in the system will be bugs, and beetles (beetils) are a type of bug! In fact, we refer collectively to incidents, problems, changes, releases, etc. in Beetil as beetils. We all like to be busy beetles too!
